I Got Ideas   Reference & Resources

Hello, my name is Mr eel. I'm one of those crazy BeOS fans. I get all excited when I hear things like 'pervasively muti-threaded', 'journaled filesystem', 'pre-emptive multi-tasking', oohhhh!

I'd like to contribute to OBOS (Open BeOS). Sadly I can't code. But, that's OK, 'cause I Got Ideas. Ideas about the next release (R2) of OBOS, what features could be implemented, and how they could function.

I also have ideas about various applications that either run on the BeOS, or could run on the OBOS sometime in the future. My various ideas are compiled below.

I'm a long time fan of the BeOS. I was more than a little saddened when developemnt on the Beos ceased entirely. Thankfully, a whole heap of BeOS fans have got together and hatched a plan. To re-write the BeOS and release it under an open source licence. Then! Then, the BeOS will never die! This project is called Open BeOS (OBOS for short).

Here are some BeOS and OBOS related sites for you to check out.

Bebits The best resource for BeOS applications. An absolutely huge amount of stuff there.

OSnews News resource for info on many different operating systems, including our beloved OBOS project.

Mozilla The official home of Mozilla. For information specific to the BeOS version go to Bezilla.org

BeNews BeOS specific news source. This site has been around for a long time. One of the first.

BeUnited An organisation devoted to assisting developers with their efforts. They have noe agreed to distribute OBOS. Fantastic!

BeDrivers A small resource for BeOS hardware drivers.

LeBuzz A site devoted to audio production on the BeOS. Mainly news oriented.

BeTips How to fix audio problems? Mount windows shares? BeTips is the best source to find awnsers for anything and everything on the BeOS.

BeOS Radio An internet radio station being streamed from a BeOS system. Sweeeet.

BeZilla Dockbert

BeZilla is going great guns! The only thing that it's really missing now (IMO) is a nice BeOS style skin. Something to make it fit in with all the other BeOS apps nicely. So I decided to make one.

This is still a work in progress I'm afraid, so as yet there are no downloads, but have a look at the screenshots. You can see where I'm going with this.

Dockbert is a deskbar replacement. It is based on the tab widgets seen in the GONX screenshots and behaves in a similar manner to the OS X dock (it is not the same however).

Typically, I've got ideas about how Dockbert could be improved, so I've compiled them into a page along with some graphics to illustrate them.

Updated to reflect changes in new versions.

MeV Glass Elevator

MeV is a fantastic midi application. The concepts underlying it were simplicity it'self, yet in application, the were.

Sadly, MeV is no longer being developed. I'd like to see it ressurected sometime in the future.

I still have ideas about what could be done with it. Ideas, brainstorming, concepts coming soon.

The Glass elevator is a mailing list devoted to the discussion of future features in OBOS R2. It's a forum for ideas about interface, features and implementation of features. Anything and everything really.

I've yet to compile all of my ideas for future versions of OBOS, thus far I've only a few image files sorted.
